Guide
A 15 Minute Evening Routine
A short shutdown that closes the working day and makes tomorrow morning easier.
Reset one surface
Five minutes on the kitchen counter or the desk. Not the whole room, one surface. Waking up to a cleared surface changes the first ten minutes of the next day out of all proportion to the effort.
Set the timer so it ends rather than expands into a full clean.
Prepare tomorrow
Five minutes: look at tomorrow's calendar, write the first task of the day where you will see it, and put out whatever you need. Clothes, bag, kit, charger.
Writing tomorrow's first task tonight is the highest-return two minutes in the routine. It removes the morning's hardest decision while you still have context.
Close the loop on today
Two minutes writing what is unfinished. Not a to-do list, a parking place. Unfinished work is far more likely to intrude on the evening if it has not been written down somewhere you trust.
Then stop working. The point of a shutdown is that it ends.
Wind down
Three minutes of something without a screen: stretching, a page of a book, standing at a window. It signals to your body that the working part of the day is over.
Keep the routine at roughly the same time each night. Consistency does more for sleep than any single technique in it.

Questions people ask
Does an evening routine improve sleep?
A consistent wind-down at a regular time, away from screens, is standard sleep-hygiene advice and helps most people fall asleep faster.
What if I finish work late?
Shorten it rather than skip it. Even three minutes writing tomorrow's first task keeps the benefit.
Run it with a timer
This is the writing; the countdown is next door. Use the 15 minute evening routine timer. Use the 15 minute self care timer.
